Essex Farm is hosting a farm tour on May 28th. The tour leaves from the barnyard at 10:00 am and will cover the vegetable fields, pasture, and livestock areas. Owner Mark Kimball says, “This is the best tour of the year because the grass is green and hopes are high. It is all about plant power!”
Participants should bring all-weather clothing and sturdy rubber boots and expect a long walk over rough terrain. There will be a potluck lunch at noon in the farmyard. Bring a dish to share and your own place setting. After lunch, there will be the opportunity to take a self-guided hike along the farm roads to some of the farm’s more remote areas.
Essex Farm is a 1300-acre farm that produces a full diet, year-round, for 300 members, including milk, meats, vegetables, fruits and grains. The farm is powered by a combination of tractors, solar panels, draft horses and a little magic. In addition to feeding the local community through its CSA Membership, Essex Farm offers weekly delivery to individual households in New York City. Essex Farm Store is open to the public everyday, from 8am-6pm.
Essex Farm is located at 2503 NYS Route 22 in Essex, one mile from the Essex-Charlotte ferry.
The tour will take place rain or shine. Suggested donation: $25 adults; $5 children. Please see the events page at www.kristinkimball.com, email essexfarm@gmail.com or call 518-963-4613 for more details.
