Every Monday we share an image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. Recognize this building? When do you think this photo was taken? What has changed compared to today? Recognize either of the women in the photo? Thanks to Monica Rumsey for sharing this old photo with us! Here’s what she said about the photo:
“Here’s a vintage postcard that complements the recent story about the forthcoming upgrades to Belden Noble Memorial Library: a color postcard that shows how the Library looked in the 1970s or ’80s.
Some people who know Essex better than I do might be able to identify the fetching young girls who are on their way in to “Essex Free Library, Greystone Cottage,” as the sign reads over the front door.” ~Monica Rumsey
And here’s what the community has already had to say when we shared this photo last week:
Christine Herrmann: I have this postcard! This photo of the Belden Noble Library was taken sometime around 1975 by Betsy McCamic. Betsy photographed my children and their cousins on the beach at Sandy Point that year.
Dianne Lansing: I think the gal in pink on the left is Missy Inglestrom. Her mom was the librarian.
Those metal railings to the left are no longer there, and there is a stone wall over the brook today. Anyone know when that was installed? Do you note any other changes?
