Every Monday we share an image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. Check out this old photograph! What do you recognize? When do you think this old photo was taken? Thank you to Robert Strickhart for sharing this photo with us!
The caption reads: “Split Rock Light from Thompson’s Pt. Vt.” Featured is the formation on Lake Champlain known as Split Rock and the lighthouse there can be seen a little off-left of center. There is a ship (a ferry?) passing in front of it on the lake. I’m not sure which one it is — perhaps the Ticonderoga or the Vermont? Can anyone identify it? Click the image to enlarge.
Here’s what the community already had to say:
Gary Berg: Great photograph, I would say right around 1910-ish. I also think it was taken from Long Point and not Thompson Point.
Bruce Ramsdell: I believe that is the lighthouse my ggg grandfather Joseph Ramsdell kept in the 1850’s.
Judi Root: Great picture…do we know its date?
