Every Monday we share an image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
What do you recognize in this Essex scene? What has changed? What has stayed the same? Do you know the location?
The caption tells us that this is “Lake Street, Essex, NY.” This is the northern part of the road that curves around Beggs Park, which you can see a bit of in the background of this photo. Today there is now a retaining wall along the shoreline, and usually a large dock out on this portion of the lake every summer. What other changes do you note?
The back of the postcard shows that it was postmarked on August, 17, 1943. That dates the photo on the front to that year or prior. Along the center we can also see the the postcard was published by The Collotype Co. of Elizabeth, NJ and NY.
