I was recently asked to contribute a story on cross country skiing to the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) Lake Champlain Region blog. Since my family was away and we recently had a great snowfall, I decided to use the opportunity for a “solitary ski” on the Hammond and Bloody Pond Trails in the hills above Port Henry. The Pok-O-Ski
On Saturday, March 4, from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m., join Zack Floss and other instructors at Pok-O-MacCready (1391 Reber Rd., Willsboro, NY), for an afternoon of cross-country skiing on and around the new CATS Carver Road Trail. Carver Road also connects to several miles of Pok-O-MacCready ski trails near the banks of Long Pond. Pok-O will rent skis, boots, and poles, for $10 per set. All ages and abilities are welcome.
The day of skiing will be largely self-led with two Pok-O-MacCready instructors available to help with any issues that may arise. They will also provide some initial training for those less familiar with cross-country skiing. Dress in non-cotton layers and bring extra clothing, food, and hot and cold liquids. Another NEW Trail
Mark your calendar for the next CATS Trail Project on March 11, 2017. Look for the big yellow “Trail Work” sign at the Triple Green Jade Farm on Mountain View Drive in Willsboro (about 1 mile southwest of the NYCO plant). Meet Bill Amadon and others at 9:00 a.m. to begin work on this new trail. When complete, the trail will follow a 1-mile loop through open farm fields and along the Boquet River. Call (518-962-2287) or email CATS (info@champlainareatrails.com) if you plan to attend. We could use your help!
