You can join this summer’s first volunteer hike/trail project at the Wildway Overlook Trail and possibly the nearby Brookfield Headwaters Trail. Meet us this Friday, June 19, at 9:00 a.m. at Dogwood Bakery before we hike the trails, do some “side-cutting,” and carry a bench honoring Bruce Klink to the summit.
We will be done in early afternoon. Friday looks like great weather so come, enjoy hiking, improving the trails, and seeing a great view of the Split Rock Wildway wildlife corridor connecting Lake Champlain to the Adirondack Mountains.
Interpretive Hike: Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Champlain Valley
Saturday, June 27 is the next Interpretive Hike where you can learn about “Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Champlain Valley.” This workshop, led by SUNY Plattsburgh professor, Dr. Michael Burgess, will improve your plant identification skills and teach you about useful local plants and sustainable harvesting and preparation techniques.
The hike will be at The Adirondack Land Trust’s Coon Mountain Nature Preserve, a protected area available for education, recreation and scientific purposes. It is a wonderful outdoor classroom where beyond approved educational demonstrations, harvesting or removing plants is prohibited.
The morning session is full but there are still openings for the 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. session. Click here for more information and to register for this workshop and to learn more about other summer workshops.
