Kids Carnival Highlights Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month
BHSN and Fidelis Care proudly present their 8th Annual Kids Carnival at the Plattsburgh City Recreation Center located at 52 US Oval on Saturday, April 27th from noon to 3pm. As always, this event is FREE to the public and will offer games, giveaways, bouncy houses, opportunities to meet local health care resources and local businesses.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. This month and throughout the year, BHSN and Fidelis Care encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making our community a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills and resources they need to care for their children, we can help promote children’s social and emotional well-being and prevent child maltreatment within families and communities.
Mayor Colin Read and Assemblyman D. Billy Jones are scheduled to speak at 12:30pm about the critical need for connecting local families with local supports. Research shows that if people improve their feelings of belonging, trust, and security, they are likely to be healthier. When people feel a greater connection to their community, they are more inclined to take action to improve their own health and the health of others. (RWJF Survey of National Health Attitudes, 2015)
“April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting and nurturing children,” said BHSN Marketing Director, Andrew Foster. “Everyone’s participation is critical. Focusing on ways to build and promote protective factors, in every interaction with children and families, is the best thing our community can do. The Annual Kids Carnival is not only an opportunity for families to bring their children out and release some winter stress and energy, but it is also a chance for local agencies to get in front of these families and explain the vital services and resources they can offer the community.”
Everyone that attends the event is encouraged to wear the color blue in order to support National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
