The Adirondack region’s best-known musicians will join up for one night at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall in a 7:00pm concert on Saturday, Feb. 24th called “Adirondack String Fever.” Led by songwriter and storyteller Dan Berggren on guitar, the show includes John Kirk and Trish Miller on fiddle, mandolin and banjo; and Peggy Lynn and Dan Duggan playing guitar and hammered dulcimer. These five long-time friends have played in combinations and separately for decades at concerts, festivals, dances, theatrical performances, and events all over the North Country. This is a rare opportunity to see them all together on one stage. Tickets are $12 / under 18, $5. The Grange is located at 1610 NYS Route 22 in Essex, New York.
Dan Berggren was raised in the Adirondacks on a family farm and his music is infused with tales of working the land and forest. He is an award-winning music educator who captures the spirit of the mountains in his songs. He has recorded over a dozen albums and released his most recent, This Planet We Call Home, in 2017. It features the song he wrote celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Whallonsburg Grange Hall in 2015.
John Kirk and Trish Miller play fiery fiddle tunes, folksongs and fancy footwork, delighting audiences of all ages. John’s lyric voice, sense of humor, and versatile instrumental skills have earned him widespread recognition in folk and traditional music circles, performing on stages from Carnegie Hall to mountain campfire gatherings. Trish Miller is known for her clogging, guitar & banjo. Both of them call square dances and have taught folk music & dance together over two decades.
Peggy Lynn is a singer, songwriter and music educator with a special passion for telling the stories of Adirondack women. Her musical styles range from folk to blues with a strong vocal presence whether singing alone or harmonizing with others. Dan Duggan is a nationally known “wizard” on hammered dulcimer and flat-picking guitar, and is the recipient of the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship. He is a true multi-instrumentalist, equally at home on guitar, slide guitar, piano, banjo and hammered dulcimer.
The concert is generously supported by Westelcom and Chazy/Westport Communications.
