The fourth and final module of the 200-Hr Ashaya Yoga Teacher Training brought together 39 participants to the Old Stone Church in Essex from May 15th-20th. It was a bittersweet week, fluctuating between laughter and tears as students took in final teachings and explored their visions for the future. A strong and unifying friendship pervaded the group, invoked by shared experiences and deep conversations. The theme of the week was metamorphosis, as participants transformed themselves one last time in their training.
Glorious spring weather revealed itself in the form of stunning sunrises over the lake, blooming trees, and flowers along sidewalks. Plenty of meals were eaten together outdoors in the sunshine. The Essex Inn once again offered a daily lunch, as well as an Indian feast one evening to celebrate the culmination of the training. Other local places remained popular sources of food and lodging for the week.
To round out the training, participants explored refinements regarding anatomy, mantra, philosophy, hands-on adjustments, and various teaching skills. Peaceful morning group practices were balanced with fun evenings of bonding, including a talent show that revealed hidden comic genius and moving dedications to the experiences shared among all. Opportunities for self-reflection were scattered throughout the busy week. With the help of dedicated staff members and encouraging peers, most students chose to pursue a teaching certification.
The Ashaya Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training brought a spark to Essex that has augmented yoga as a valuable means of spreading teachings of renewal and gratitude. As a group, plenty of time was spent brainstorming the many means and places where yoga can be taught in communities near and far. As participants look forward after such a transformative experience, they can trust in the power of their skills to share the benefits of yoga in numerous ways.
Thanks must be given in particular to Todd Norian, for his exceptional teaching and his commitment to guide the training from beginning to end. Participants are also indebted to Michelle Maron, for her encouragement and her vision for such a training, as she took an idea and brought it to fruition. The talented staff members, who took their own time to assist with the training, were universally appreciated for their unwavering support in countless different ways. Additionally, the Essex Inn must be thanked for providing the spaces as well as food and refreshments each module.
Ashaya Yoga offers precise physical alignment as well as teachings that open the heart and inspire a realization that each person’s true nature is bliss.
