On Saturday, September 17, the Whallonsburg Grange Hall will present the incredibly talented and riveting Welsh band Calan. With fiddles, guitar, accordion, bagpipes, harp, and step dancing, the group performs a mix of traditional melodies and new original music from Wales.
Calan bring together five young musicians who give a fresh and vibrant sound to Welsh music with their spirited and energetic performances. They deliver renditions of favorite reels and jigs in what the Daily Mirror in London describes as, “Music played with grace, daring, and sheer joy.” They also pay homage to some of the most beautiful and haunting stories in the Welsh tradition, like the ancient tale of Merlin and the Two Dragons, from their most recent CD release, Dinas.
Show time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Advance tickets on sale at the Grange, by email reservation to admin@thegrangehall.info or by mail at PO Box 54, Essex, NY 12936. The Grange is located at 1610 NYS Route 22 in Whallonsburg, New York, 5 miles south of the Essex ferry dock. For more information visit www.thegrangehall.info or call 518-963-4170.
