Join us on Sunday, October 25, for a special “Six Hours in the Woods” volunteer workday at the NEW Sophie’s Lair Trail. This trail, located on Reg and Jenny Bedell’s property in Willsboro, is named in honor of their cat, Sophie who enjoyed roaming these woods, climbing trees, and just being a “wild animal” in the outdoors. Thanks to the fourteen volunteers from the American Hiking Society who worked last week with Bill Amadon, we’ve made great progress and now YOU can help us complete the trail in time for cross-country ski season.
Meet at the trailhead at the Florence Hathaway Trail parking lot at 9:00 a.m. (Directions are below). Bring your lunch and loppers and/or handsaws if you have them. We will work until 3:00 p.m.
Directions to Florence Hathaway Trail parking lot: On Route 22, 1.3 miles south of bridge over the Boquet River in Willsboro, or 3.2 miles north of Essex.
Owl Prowl
Saturday, October 24th is the first OWL PROWL of the season. Last year, these early evening hikes were so popular with young hikers and their families that we decided to do them again. Join teacher/naturalist Gregg Van Deussen at the Black Kettle Farm Trail at 6:00 p.m. as he makes owl calls to elicit responses from owls in the woods and meadow. Click here for more information and to register.
