The Champlain Valley Film Series will present the film The Unloved on Sunday, April 22, at 4:00 p.m. at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall.
Academy Award nominated actress Samantha Morton’s directorial debut, this fierce, semi-autobiographical film captures the subtle magic and melancholy of childhood told from the perspective of a girl torn between a broken family and an inept social system, adrift in a cold, uncaring human world. Sustained by her faith and the beauty of the natural world, Lucy’s inner strength and heart are reflected in the film’s images of nature, suffused with ardent intensity. Morton is a modern day inheritor of the British poetic visionary tradition of William Blake.
This film is a poignant feature among a new alternative film series called “Adventures in Film: Beyond the Mainstream” which has brought several rare, experimental and classic films to the area.
Tickets are $5. Conversation and snacks to follow the film.
