The March tour is unpredictable. Sometimes it’s a winter tour, sometimes it’s a spring tour. Mud is almost guaranteed! Make sure to bring enough clothes to keep you warm, and boots that will keep your feet dry in slush and mud. We’ll look at the new composting barns, the logging and firewood operation, and talk about what it’s like to eat locally in early spring. March is also sugar season, but we’re not sure if we’re going to sugar this year, and there is no guarantee that the sap will be running in any case.
We tour the fields and barnyard together from 10 until noon, then have a potluck lunch. In the afternoon, you are free to explore the remote parts of the farm on your own, or join Mark for a walk or a work project.
All the tours involve a lot of walking over uneven ground. Wear sturdy footwear. Families with small children might want to bring an all-terrain stroller. Potluck lunch! Bring a dish to share and your own place setting. While reservations are not necessary, it’s nice to know how many to expect, so if you know you’re coming, please send us an email with the number of people in your party. (Essex Farm)
