The Belden Noble Memorial Library Board is excited to announce a new program.
Later this spring we will formally dedicate the ESSEX WALL OF LITERARY FAME. We believe local authors and their works enrich our community and the broader culture and deserve special recognition.
About twenty individuals have already been identified and have agreed to be a part of this program. The Library is reaching out through this announcement to invite others who qualify to come forward and be honored. The criteria are as follows:
- Be a full or part-time adult resident of the Town of Essex.
- Have successfully published, by an independent publisher, a print book of prose (fiction or non-fiction) or poetry for public distribution or sale.
The Literary Wall of Fame will be located in the DOFFY VOORHIS READING ROOM of the Library. Doffy is a long-time seasonal resident of Essex whose family recently provided the funds for equipping and maintaining the room, which is located at the rear of the first floor of the Library. Photos and brief biographies of the honorees will be displayed on one wall of the room and autographed copies of their work will be available for loan to the public. Honorees will also be featured on the Library’s website.
If you have not already been contacted by the Library regarding this program and believe you meet the criteria above, please contact Jim Van Hoven, whom the Library has asked to implement the program. He can be reached at jimcolleenvh@gmail.com, (518) 963-4084 or PO Box 114, Essex, NY 12936. The deadline for inquiries is March 31, 2021. If there is a question about your eligibility it will be reviewed by a committee of the library Board.
We are very excited at this opportunity to honor our local authors. What better place than a library!
