Leaf peeping is one of the most popular fall pastimes in the Adirondacks. The brilliant and rich myriad of golds, reds, purples, and browns draw the eye of locals and tourists alike. As I write this article more and more leaves are changing color. The 2013 foliage season has already begun!
The trees are starting to change color, in response to shorter days and cooler temperatures. The reds and oranges are in the leaves, but how well they’re expressed depends on the weather just before the change. Chilly but not freezing nights and warm sunny days bring out the brightest colors, just as in apples. A rainy summer has no effect on the color, nor does the width of caterpillar stripes. (Rob Ivy)
We did a lot of meditation on autumn last year, including sharing some wonderful videos and photos of the beautiful foliage. Check out a look at what may have been the peak foliage from 2012! This year we are hoping to share even more images, and we want your help!
Send Us Your Foliage Photos

With some of the most impressive foliage in the Northeast, the Adirondacks are a prime destination for visitors and locals alike with a desire to view some of the most breathtaking vistas from the areas numerous mountains. (Adirondack.net Fall Guide)
We want you to send us your foliage snapshots! Capture what you think are the most beautiful autumn trees, leaves, and/or vistas!
Perhaps choose one tree or section of forest and track the progression of colors as autumn advances until the leaves being to fall–that would be a fascinating collection (perhaps even better as a slideshow/video progression?). That would be a longer term project, but such a beautiful one I’m sure!
We will post the photos we get on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook Page to share with the community!
