The Whallonsburg Grange Hall, together with Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH), will present “The Life and Times of Inez Milholland” with speaker Linda Lumsden on Tuesday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. This will be the final lyceum presentation for the Grange’s spring series.
Inez Milholland was a leader in the fight for women’s suffrage, a labor lawyer, and passionate campaigner for the rights of women and children. Milholland traveled the country, speaking and organizing, until her collapse and death after a suffrage rally in Los Angeles in 1916. Milholland spent summers on her family’s land in Lewis, New York, which is now the Meadowmount School of Music.
The lyceum speaker Linda Lumsden, an associate professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Arizona, has authored the biography Inez: The Life and Times of Inez Milholland.
Admission is $5.00 and students are free. The Whallonsburg Grange is located at 1610 NYS Route 22, five miles south of the village of Essex.
AARCH is hosting a tour of the Milholland estate followed by dinner at the Grange before the lyceum. Learn more and sign up for the tour here.
