Hawk Watch Coming Up!
Saturday, April 27, Ticonderoga naturalists Malinda and Glen Chapman will lead the CATS’ Coot Hill-Big Hollow Bird Walk and Hawk Watch. The hike will begin at 9:00 am and last about three hours. This is a great hike that has become quite popular over the last few years.
Coot Hill is a great place to see osprey, red-tailed hawks, northern harriers, kestrels, and other birds as well as great views of the Champlain Valley and Vermont’s Green Mountains. Bring your binoculars!
We’ll meet at 9 a.m. on Lang Road. Directions are below. The road can be muddy and soft so we may direct you to park along it instead of at the end of it.
The Hawk Watch is free, but registration is requested by emailing info@champlainareatrails.com or calling (518) 962-2287.
Directions: From downtown Port Henry, go south on Main Street to Edgemont Road (If you are coming from the south, Edgemont Road is the first road after Bridge Road); Go west on Edgemont Road to where it T’s with Moriah Road. Turn left and go 1.3 miles to Lang Road. Turn left and go until you see us directing you for parking.
Fun at the Grand Hike’s Block Party
We’ve got fun activities planned for the Block Party at the Essex Inn after the Grand Hike!
For kids, Erin Hall has a secret craft activity (hint: it involves making a medal to celebrate hiking the Grand Hike) and there’ll be face painting.
For kids of all ages, we’ll have a photo booth, another way to commemorate what will be a great day.
Remember, you don’t have to do the Grand Hike to come to the Block Party but we do need to know if you plan to join us so the Inn can prepare enough food. Drop us a note at info@champlainareatrails.com or call (518) 962-2287 to let us know.
And to register for the Grand Hike—you’ll save $5 if you register before May 6—go here.
