Sunday, June 25 at 1:00 p.m. is the Grand Opening Hike on the High Point Trail on Willsboro Point in Willsboro. You can hike to the highest point on Willsboro Point to see views of…well, views of the trees around you. It’s a great hike through woods, along rock walls, and by wetlands with varieties of amphibians but the high point is the top of small rise on the fairly level Willsboro Point peninsula. Just think, you can get to the High Point and not be out of breath. Tell that to a 46er.
Thank you to Marsha and Bill Harbison, the property owners who first developed the trail and then worked with CATS to open it the public for hiking. Meet at the High Point Trailhead on Point Road, about 0.6 mile north of Frisbie Road.
Adirondack Birds and Wildflowers Talk
Thursday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. – CATS board member, Malinda Chapman and her husband Glen will give a talk titled, “Adirondack Birds and Wildflowers” at the Ticonderoga Campus of North Country Community College for its free summer lecture series. Glen takes fabulous photos and they both have incredible knowledge of the outdoors so it will be an enjoyable and entertaining evening.
Moriah Challenge Update
People from near and far hiked the four trails in the Moriah Challenge last weekend. Over 65 people picked up patches for hiking all four of the trails—that’s Belfry Mountain, Cheney Mountain, Coot Hill/Big Hollow, and Crowfoot Pond. Some did it that day and others over several days. Many just hiked individual trails and plan to complete all four trails during the summer so they too can pick up the patch at the Moriah Chamber of Commerce. Thank you to Cathy Sprague for coordinating the event, Linda Smyth for creating the patch, and the whole community for hosting the Challenge.
