Champlain Area Trails (CATS) is pleased to announce the hiring of Logan Van Buren as CATS Summer Trail Steward. Logan is spending his summer assisting CATS Trail Steward Bill Amadon with the maintenance of trails: mowing, pruning, putting up trail signs, creating new trails, building small bridges and water bars and more—all the jobs that go into making CATS trails so enjoyable to hike.
Logan will be a senior at Moriah Central High School and plans to work in the medical field after college. He runs track and cross country for Moriah—having competed at the state championship level six times. He was familiar with CATS both from hiking with his family and training for track by running on the trails, often very early in the morning before school.
“This is the best job I’ve ever had,” Logan said recently. “I like working outside on trails I know, and discovering new ones. I’m learning so much from Bill and (CATS Executive Director) Chris (Maron).”
The feeling is mutual. “We’re so glad to have him working with us,” Maron said. “We’re pleased to offer a job to a local young person and grateful to the CATS donors who make it possible. Thanks to their donations and others who give to our summer internship program, we are able to make this hire.”
