The current graduate class of Masters degree Fellows from Palestine, Israel, Jordan and Syria is coming to town!
The class is just completing its first graduate school year-long course at McGill University’s masters program, to lead the “International Community Action Network.” In the next five weeks, as part of their gathering together before dispersing back into their very separated communities, the Fellows will be coming to our area for two public assemblies and for overnight home-stays with our North Country families.
Please mark your calendars!
Public Assemblies with ICAN Fellows
April 13, (Monday), 10:00-10:45am, Willsboro Central School, H.S. Student Assembly (9th-12th grades)
Free and open to the public. (Host families have been found for home stays April 12-13.)
May 5, (Tuesday), 7:30-9:00pm, Whallonsburg Grange Hall
Lyceum: McGill’s Middle East “International Community Network,” Why Peace is Achievable, Fellows’ personal accounts
Open to the public, donations accepted, students free. Watch Grange Calendar for May and Essex Events Calendar for coming announcements. (Host families for home stays are needed, for the night of May 5-6.)
At the assemblies, the Fellows will give personal presentations about their separate lives under immense pressures, and the social work they have done together for their masters program – based on community and peace building through “Rights Based Practices.” They have been training to lead their “International Community Action Network” community centers and to teach their own University student community volunteers in these universal social work practices.
Learn more about the Fellows & their work in this recent Montreal Gazette article: “McGill’s ICAN program bridges social divides between Middle Eastern students.”
Both assemblies are open to the public.
Please mark your calendars, and come welcome and encourage this current class of courageous social work professionals here from Palestine, Israel, Jordan, and Syria with their young, inspiring families.
