Our local Farm and Forest Camp at Black Kettle Farm is here again from July 8th and August 9th. A few openings are still available. Families with children ages 4 to 9 who are looking for an adventuresome week are invited to apply. Interested families should contact School Administrator Maeve Taylor at (518) 963-7385 or by emailing admin@lakesideschoolinessex.org.
Farm and Forest Camp is all about playing outdoors: wading in the creek, catching frogs, building forts, learning about plants, and of course getting muddy! Campers also care for chickens and horses, harvest the veggie garden to create delicacies, dye t-shirts using plants, make their own journals, act out stories, make toy boats, and participate in other activities that connect them with nature. Weaving all of these exciting activities together is a steady rhythm of songs, stories, and games. Each week goes quickly, but the students are left with the joy of new friendships, new outdoor skills, and a lasting love for our natural world.
Camp instructors prioritize meeting the needs of young children, while introducing them to forest adventures in an age-appropriate way. Lead teacher is Noah Weber, a Lakeside early childhood teacher and geologist with a strong background in biology, outdoor recreation, and farming. Assistant is Maggie Gordon, an Expeditionary Studies major at Plattsburgh University, with experience in teaching people to rock climb and hike, and a strong interest in farming.
