In my previous blog entry promoting a screening of Woody Allen’s “Take the Money and Run” I addressed concerns about the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine in a satirical context, via the scene where Woody morphs into a rabbi as an unexpected side-effect of experimental inoculation. One (Plattsburgh) reader responded slamming me for suggesting the Pfizer vaccine falls short of foolproof magic elixir and, worse, is the product of sinister intent. Say what? Strange, I could’ve sworn I was merely hinting at worry over the CDC reporting scattered instances of anaphylaxis in Pfizer-trial recipients, and what that might mean for any potential recipient’s system already subject to a complicated pharmaceutical dynamic, such as my own. Well, as the great Oscar Wilde once said, if there’s one thing in life worse than being labled a conspiracy theorist, it’s not being labeled a conspiracy theorist. Or something like that.
Anyway, the Newman Center Film Series-on-Tour’s next stop will encourage discussion of this very topic, in all non-satirical seriousness at that! So what’s on the marquee? Why, the 1972 quasi-Lovecraftian spooker “The Creeping Flesh” with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, which just so happens to be about problematic experimental inoculation implemented with the very best of intentions (what were the odds on that?).
Remember, we’re not at the Newman Center until further notice but on indefinite tour, and we’ll be at Plattsburgh’s Days Inn (formerly Holiday Inn off I- 87 on Rte. 3) at 7 pm Saturday, January 30th for “The Creeping Flesh.” On reel-to-reel 16mm film! Free, with donations welcome (free food as well). The usual Covid-19 restrictions apply. Please register your interest in attending by e-mailing serious_61@yahoo.com or calling/texting 518-802-1220.
