Saturday night, October 24, was the first CATS Owl Prowl of the season. Twenty-seven children and adults came out to follow naturalist and educator Gregg VanDeusen on the Black Kettle Trail in Essex and he talked about the different species of owls in the area and made owl calls.
After the hike, the group met in the barn at Black Kettle Farm where Gregg showed skulls and feet of different birds and talked about how they differ from one another.

Sophie’s Lair Trail
It takes a lot to create a four-mile trail and we made a lot of progress during last Saturday’s “Six Hours in the Woods” trail project. We finished clearing the trail and will soon put up trail markers and other finishing touches. Stay tuned for the opening—it may be for a cross-country ski because it will be a great place for that.
Coming up this fall….
More Owl Prowls, and Moonlight Hikes, as well as some other NEW and EXCITING events. Check our website often and “Like” us on Facebook to be sure to see what’s coming up. Our events committee has been working hard to to finalize a great schedule of events for this winter!
