“I’m looking for a relative (John Call, 21 yrs old, born 1861) that came from Michigan and died in New York on 9-3-1882. I believe he had relatives: Joe Call, Jesse Call, or Sherman Call that lived in Essex and/or Onondaga, New York. Apparently John left home after his father, Andrew Call, remarried. I am postulating that he came there to work and had an accident or got sick. I can’t seem to find him on ancestry or a find a grave either. Maybe there is an newspaper article that had a Obit or an announcement?
I also can’t seem to find John’s dad and civil war hero of 10 battles, Andrew Call. He died in Elsie, Michigan (Clinton County) and was born in Onondaga. His death certificate says he was buried in Elsie Cemetery on 4-1-1900, but I cannot find a grave. These 2 people seem to have dropped off the radar. I did find out that Sherman Call and Andrew Call were brothers…their Father was Jesse.
This may get a little confusing. To the best of my research Andrew’s Father was Jessie Call…whose wife was Phoebe Rasey or Pasey…she apparently died and he remarried a Margaret Conners…a widow of a Lacey. So far all my records from ancestry show his dad to be Sherman which I cannot find to be right. This could be a real conundrum…” ~Lee C. Parker
If anyone has any information or insight they can share with Mr. Parker about these two ancestors of his, please email him at canparmkt@gmail.com.
Here are Andrew Call’s muster papers from the Civil War if anyone is curious. Click on an image to enlarge.

I have no personal insight to offer (Sorry!), but I’ll happily spread your request far and wide.
I imagine that you’re already familiar with the book, Joe Call, the Lewis Giant by Maitland C. De Sormo. If not, here’s a review: https://www.essexonlakechamplain.com/people/joe-call-the-lewis-giant/

I started to research Joe Call a few years ago when I had time. I believe he was related to my grandmother, Sara White Call. Perhaps time to continue……….
I am not familiar with the book by DeSormo but would like to get a copy.

Eve, I think they may have a copy in the Essex Library (Belden Noble Memorial Library) that you can check out. And perhaps you’ll stumble across a tombstone for John Call or Andrew Call in your photographic explorations!

So far I’ve had no answer from the People at the Elsie, MI / Elsie Cemetery concerning my Ancestor : Andrew Call. It is closed and no longer accepts Residents / Burials. His Death certificate says he was buried there…along with Family members…my best guess is that cemetery records got lost or destroyed. Find a grave has not turned up anything either. The guy was quite a Critter…he out lived 2 wives, survived 10 battles, 26 skirmishes and lost a leg below the knee…He mustered out in Macon, Ga. They paid him $477+ and he walked home…to Elsie, MI.
