PRAISE for TWAIN
“Ms. Martin is a vocalist with an earnest and unaffected style and a songwriter of unforcedinsight…the new album also highlights a shift toward original material and folky ambience bya generation of singers, some of whom see Ms. Martin as a touchstone.” – Nate Chinen, “AVoice That Leaps Between Genres”, The New York Times
“Rebecca Martin may be of a school unto herself; the closest she might come to Americanawould be such as the works of Sylvia Plath, Robert Lowell, Anne Sexton, John Berryman, W.D. Snodgrass and Allen Ginsburg. Twain is Ms. Martin’s Ariel; her Heart’s Needle, her DreamSongs.” – Raul de Gama, Jazz da Gama
“Rebecca Martin is one of a number of contemporary singers who defies categorization…Her voice is as organic as her words, an expressive vehicle for channeling emotions. It’s a powerful, though tastefully understated, combination.” – James Hale, CBC Music
The 2014 summer series concludes on August 28th on the hillside amphitheater overlookingLake Champlain, known as the Ballard Park Performance Pavilion. Bring a blanket/lawnchairs and a picnic.
