Spirit of Place. The essence or “unique, distinctive, and cherished aspects of a place” (Wikipedia). In this case, the Champlain Valley. That is what the Westport Heritage House Art Exhibit is all about. The show opens July 1 and can be seen throughout the summer during visitor center open hours. Concurrently, a silent auction begins and continues until 3 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
A diverse show, regional artists express themselves about living and working in the Champlain Valley or along the shores of Lake Champlain via paintings, drawings, photographs, pottery, fabric art, sculpture, and collage. Participating artists, whose ages range a span of over 70 years, demonstrate their inspiration and interpretation with a variety of media. All work is for sale, with proceeds going to the artists and to benefit the Westport Heritage House for building care and maintenance and winter heat!
The Westport Heritage House is open daily, except Tuesdays, during July and August. Weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm; Sundays from 1 to 3 pm.
A Meet the Artists reception is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 5 to 7 pm, before the Soundwaves Concert in Ballard Park featuring vocalist Kate McGarry and guitarist Keith Ganz performing classic and contemporary jazz tunes.
Spirit of Place Studio tours, where the public is invited to see the space where artists create their work, will take place the last Saturday of each month: July 25, August 29, and September 26. Watch for the big yellow Studio Tour signs with arrows! Maps are available at Heritage House.
