Mark your calendar for January 21 and join CATS Stewardship Coordinator, Bill Amadon to make the new Hemlock Hill Trail. This new trail will be on Tom Duca’s property in Westport, on Sherman Road. Starting time is 9:00 a.m. and we should finish around 1:00. Please call the office (518-962-2287) or email us (info@champlainareatrails.com) if you plan to attend.
Directions: From the corner of Sherman and Lakeshore Roads in Westport, go north on Sherman Road about 3/4 mile to the Trailhead, on your right.

Saturday, January 21: Mammal Tracking with Elizabeth Lee. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Observers’ Trail parking area. (see directions below). Be ready to spend 3 to 4 hours following and identifying mammal tracks in the snow. You’ll likely see coyote, deer, weasel, rabbit, bobcat, and porcupine tracks along with bear claw marks on trees. Plus, you may possibly see fisher, otter, mink, and mystery animal tracks. Bring snowshoes!
Saturday, February 4: Back Country Ski Exploration. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Observers’ Trail Parking area (see directions below) to explore logging roads west of Poke-O-Moonshine. This will be a ski trip for those with at least intermediate skills to manage steep, narrow terrain. Be prepared for a 3 to 4 hour moderate to difficult ski.
Directions: – 1 mile south of the former Campground on Route 9 – #1a on the CATS map.
