Every Monday we share a new vintage/historic image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. The image we share is often an old photo, postcard, brochure or other artifact. Can our viewers identify the scene in the photo–the street, the buildings, the people, the event…? Can they guess the date/year? Do they recognize the artist? What changes do they notice between the photo and the scene/building as it is today?

We leave the image up as our cover image for a week, and then the following Monday we post a story on the blog revealing an analysis of that image along with all the commentary gathered from those who had something to say. We welcome answers (or even guesses) to the questions we pose or just reminiscence and nostalgia!

Sometimes a guess is all it takes to help unravel the mystery! The Vintage Essex Trivia challenge is a fun (and interesting) way to explore our Essex, NY heritage. Part research, part game, part “crowdsourcing.” Together we can collect and preserve valuable artifacts and knowledge before they succumb to the passage of time. We can celebrate the memories and stories of our forebears while simultaneously archiving and curating our cultural heritage for generations still to come.

Oftentimes these vintage images receive many likes, but we love it even more when they create conversation in the community! So stop on by our Facebook page and leave a comment.
