Every Monday we share an image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. The postcard above we shared with the public last week. Our thanks to Susie Drinkwine for sharing it with us!
Do you recognize this site? When do you think the photo was taken? The answers are right on the photo:
The caption to the left on the photo tells us that this is “St. John’s Church and Rectory, Essex, NY.” The caption on the right also tells us who and when this photo was taken: “Copyright 1908 By B.Barker.”
I’m sure everyone familiar with Essex recognize that distinctive Gothic architecture — take a look at that unique steeple and the buttresses on the side!
What changes do you notice in the photo compared to how this place looks today? We had a couple of comments that identified some differences:
Scottie Ginn: No fence, carport.
Lorraine Townsend Faherty: Door to St. John’s moved
Do you notice any others? Or have any other thoughts to share? Please leave a comment below!
