Every Monday we share an image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
Do you recognize this ship? What can you tell us about it? When do you think this old postcard dates to?
Here’s what the community already had to say about this image:
Tilly Close: I took a scenic trip on the Chautegay on Lake Winnipsockie, NH
Dianne Lansing: Same boat?
Deborah Klink: The Ticonderoga!
Helen Jennings Rita: The Essex Ferry. Dates back to 1950s?
If you didn’t recognize it there are clues on the postcard. The name on the side of this old steam ship reads: “Chateaugay“. The caption along the bottom of the postcard reads: STR “Chateaugay” on Lake Champlain. Check out our Steamer Chateaugay archives to see other vintage images of the Chateaugay that we’ve shared in the past.
Take a look at the back side of the postcard below. On the left side it tells us that Detroit Publishing Co. was the publisher.
