Every week we share a different image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
Do you recognize the site in the image above? We shared it without it’s caption on social media and only gave the hint that it was not in Essex. Here’s what the community had to say:
Dianne Lansing: I think this was in Westport, just north of the Marina and south of the bridge in the center of town. (It used to be a lovely spot in my time 😉)
Claire LaPine: The old grist mill in Willsboro
Ann Dickinson: Makes me think of the Old Stone Mill that was in Westport many many years ago.?
Alice Pettersen: I think Claire LaPine is right.
Donna Marie McKenna: I agree with Claire and Alice.
Did you recognize it before reading the caption? It’s in Westport, New York. Where is it exactly? What can you tell us about this old mill? Was it a saw mill? Flour mill? Another type? When do you think the image was created?
Take a look at the back side of the postcard below and you can see that it was mailed on August 7, 1913 from Port Henry, NY. The message itself is a little faded and hard to read, but click on the image to enlarge if you’re interested! We can also see that the postcard was published by C.E. Smith.
