The Grange’s third installment in their Fall Lyceum Series on the Subject of Navigation. Cliffs, crags and ledges are often described as being liminal spaces in the cartography world – strikingly obvious and intriguing to many, yet easily accessible to only a select few. Rock and ice climbing guide Mark Scott will try to explain the process of ascending a large cliff, whether it’s a first ascent or a well-trodden classic.
When: Tuesday, October 12th, 7PM
Mark Scott grew up in the Champlain Valley and was out hiking, cross-country skiing, and getting firewood with his family from a young age. After being introduced to climbing as a teenager, it became a driving force in his life. Through climbing, Mark has traveled to Peru, New Zealand, and throughout the American West. For him, it is a pursuit that is both empowering and humbling. He guides climbers throughout the Adirondacks and is the owner of Great Range Mountain Guides.
