The Whallonsburg Grange Hall hosts fiddler Dana Lyn and fingerstyle-guitarist Kyle Sanna performing music from “The Coral Suite” on Sunday, October 14 at 7:00pm. In this unique evening of sound and sight, the New York City-based duo use traditional Irish music to create an audio-visual poem to the life cycles and natural processes of a coral reef.
Lyn and Sanna pay tribute to the miraculous biodiversity of the coral ecosystem, using the rich vocabulary of Irish melody along with light boxes and animated projections featuring Dana Lyn’s artwork. Lyn and Sanna have collaborated with some of the greatest living interpreters of Irish music, including Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill, and played with and composed for a wide range of other performers including Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, Loudon Wainwright, Bella Fleck, and Susan McKeown.
“Lyn and Sanna challenge our expectations and assumptions about Irish music [and] invite us to consider our perceptions of the natural world . . . and what it means when a voice in its grand chorus is no longer heard.” – Boston Irish Reporter
