What pairs better with Shakespeare than local food, wine, and beer? Nothing, that’s what! This season, ADK Shakes is offering three performances for all you foodies out there. On Saturday, October 3, enjoy a three-course dinner at The Bullhouse in Chestertown. Meet & Greet with the cast during cocktail hour starting at 5:00 p.m. The following weekend, Poco Mas Taco Truck will be serving up dinner created from local ingredients ahead of Hamlet at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall in Essex on Saturday, October 10. The Autumn Festival Season closes with a fabulous Farm to Table Reception hosted by the Seagle Music Colony and sponsored by the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce on Sunday, October 11. Local vendors will serve up tastings of their products, including wine & beer. The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. curtain for The Winter’s Tale.
Satisfy your taste buds, but you can also satiate your mind. This year kicks off ADK Shakespeare’s new Annual Hamlet Project. Artistic Director, Tara Bradway, explains, “Many theaters, dance troupes, or choral groups have a touchstone work they revisit every year, like A Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker or The Messiah. For us, we feel like it’s Hamlet. The story is so rich, and it’s such an actor’s play. We have a great number of actors who really should play Hamlet, and we want to facilitate those Hamlets in the coming years.” The group plans to add more programs surrounding Hamlet each year of the project, hoping to create a fan following for Shakespeare’s best ghost story each autumn.
