In 1905, Dr. Charles Robinson founded Camp Pok-O-Moonshine for boys […and then] in 1967 Camp MacCready for girls was created. In the 1970s, the two camps were merged together to become one co-ed camp named Pok-O-MacCready. Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center [PMOEC] was started in 1974, utilizing the extensive educational and residential facilities year-round. (PMOEC)
The PMOEC campus sits on 300 acres of the Adirondack Park, and the property is crisscrossed by more than 15 miles of cross-country skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and nature trails. The camp’s waterfront on Long Pond provides easy access to canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and is also used for the camp’s ecology classes. A perfect place for outdoor recreation and learning!
Each year more than 50 schools and groups bring students to the Outdoor Education Center. PMOEC also uses nearby 1812 Homestead, Lake Champlain, and Eastern High Peaks for certain events and activities. Several events open to the community also take place here each year.
You can contact PMOEC by phone (518) 963-7967 or email director@pmoec.org. Learn more by visiting their website www.pmoec.org. Or visit www.pokomac.com to learn more about the Pok-O-MacCready Camps.
