At our table during Downtown Essex Day this summer (2013) we prompted the passing crowds to draw Essex doodles. We asked potential doodlers, “What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Essex, New York?”
David Brayden stopped by and mentioned that he loved the story we wrote on the Essex on Lake Champlain Blog about his son’s passion for history that led him to the hobby of metal detecting historic properties in search of antique items. Including many finds in Essex!
From Treasures to Dock House
We asked David to draw us something Essex-y, and he quickly sketched out this simple building and labeled it “Dock House.” The Old Dock Restaurant is a prominent Essex building that is one of the most recognizable to passengers coming in on the Essex-Charlotte ferry with it’s red exterior, so it’s no surprise to see that as a response!
Are you inspired to doodle Essex? Perhaps you’d like to send us your interpretations of another Essex building? The Essex Inn, Hascall House, or Masonic Lodge perhaps? Or how about another dock house? With docks? And boats?
Or maybe history is your passion and you’d like to draw people and items from Essex’s past? Whatever you’re inspiration and whatever the final outcome we’d love to see your Essex doodles!
