At our table during Downtown Essex Day this summer we prompted the passing crowds to draw us doodles. We asked, “What came to mind when thinking of Essex?”
To get creative inspirations flowing we did a few doodles ourselves as examples. Do you recognize the phrase in the doodle above? It’s not just something to bake with– “Gold Medal Flour” is painted on the side of the Old Brick Store! The view of that inscription was to our left while we sat at our Essex Day table, and when a lull in passersby appeared the opportunity arose to quickly copy that phrase along with a reminiscent brick surround in our sketchbook.
Do you know of any other words on the walls around Essex? Inscriptions, engravings, graffiti, or even signs? A collection of Essex words on display sounds like an interesting idea… Perhaps you’d like to take a stroll and copy down any you see? Maybe you’d even be inspired to doodle some of them? We’d love to receive any contributions!
