The Daniel Freedman Trio
Friday, October 2nd Whallonsburg Grange Hall -7:30pm
Saturday, October 3rd Upper Jay Arts Center – 8pm
Daniel Freedman | drums
Jason Lindner | piano
Pablo Menares | bass
Daniel Freedman is a drummer with a unique perspective on rhythm. In 1999 he told the New York Times “I would like to make the drum set not sound like a drum set…and sometimes I get there, just for a minute.” An earnest student of world rhythms, Freedman has travelled the globe in search of knowledge from authentic practitioners of ancient traditions in places such as Egypt, Morocco and Senegal. The Daniel Freedman Trio brings together the pianist Jason Lindner, described by Chick Corea as “a musical universe”, and the bassist Pablo Menares. The trio served as the core of the Jason Lindner Big Band for many years, as well as being the preferred rhythm section for artists such as Avishai and Anat Cohen.
These concerts are sponsored by a Decentralization Grant through the Essex County Arts Council. Decentralization Grants are made possible through the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
