Join us this summer, July 2015 for our Farm and Forest Summer camp at Black Kettle Farm! This meaningful summer experience is offered to 4-9 year olds on a weekly enrollment basis throughout the month of July. Days will be filled with farm chores, work in our flourishing vegetable garden, art projects, handcrafts, games and free play. We will also spend time everyday exploring the natural wonders in the forest surrounding Black Kettle Farm. The Farm and Forest camp is based in The Waldorf model, to nurture imagination, creativity, and active play in the developing child.
Each week of July we will explore a theme that will be the inspiration for our games, crafts, and activities:
Session 1-July 6-10 Earth Week
While we will be spending time in the garden all summer long, this week will have extra focus on DIRT. What lives in the dirt, what grows in the dirt, and what can people do with dirt? We will work with clay, and explore the forest, and spend lots of time getting dirty!
Session 2-July 13-17 Air Week
This week will be filled with fun games: we will play ball games, throwing games, and running games. We will explore the wind by making and flying our own kites. We will look up into the trees to listen and watch for the birds that live there. Our crafts this week will adorn our garden and show us which way the wind is blowing.
Session 3-July 20-24 Sun Week
This week we will explore all things sunny!! In the garden we will watch the way the sun helps the flowers and plants grow, and harvest some yummy treats for our snack. We will play with our shadows and explore the light and darkness in the forest. After learning a bit about the solar panels at our school, we will
Session 4-July 27-July 31 Water Week
What could be more fun on a hot summer day than to spend it exploring all the wonders of water? This week we will visit the wetland areas at the farm and learn about the animals that live there. We will blow giant bubbles, play water games, and visit the waterfall in the forest.
The program will be directed by Kathleen Morse our own elementary teacher at Lakeside School.
