Organizations as diverse as the North Country SPCA, the Adirondack Shakespeare Company, and the Hale Historical Research Foundation met the May 15th application deadline for a grant from the Essex Community Fund and the Charlie Goff Memorial Fund.
The North Country SPCA wishes help to fund the SNIP (The targeted Spay/ Neuter Incentive Program). The Adirondack Shakespeare Company would perform at Willsboro Central School in a sequel to last year’s well-received presentation on the Bard’s strong female characters. The Hale Historical Research Foundation needs a laptop to facilitate the inventory of the enormous and important Clark Collection that contains much information about the towns of Essex and Willsboro for most of the nineteenth century.
The Fund concentrates on capacity building and small capital projects like the interior ceiling of the Octagon Schoolhouse requested by ECHO or beautification at Lake View Cemetery. Lakeside School wants assistance in teacher training, the Belden Noble Memorial Library seeks help to get a 501.c.3 status from the IRS so that it can raise funds.
In total, organizations in Essex or that serve the town and its residents have requested over $17,000. The Fund’s Grants Committee has reviewed the proposals and helped applicants make them complete and clarified any questions. The entire Council of the Fund will meet on June 6, 2015 to consider the proposals. It will then request that the Adirondack Foundation fund the recommendations from the Essex Community Fund’s endowment. The applicants will learn of the Council’s recommendations shortly after June 6th, and they can expect to receive a check early in July.
