Beginning on July 8th, at 7 pm, the Adirondack Historical Society is sponsoring the 2014 ELIZABETH HW LAWRENCE LECTURE SERIES, this year focusing on theme and amusement parks in the Adirondacks. All lectures are at 7:00 PM. The schedule includes:

Arto Monaco: From Tinseltown to World War II to the Land of Makebelieve
Anne Mackinnon, historian and president of the Arto Monaco Historical Society.

Building Lake Placid’s Sports Culture
Jim Rogers, Lake Placid resident and Olympic sports researcher.
August 12
Roth’s Forge Village at Frontier Town
Morris Glenn, author and historian. Program describes the small 1800’s industries in North Hudson that were rebuilt and operated as part of the theme park.
August 19
Santa’s Workshop & the Land of Makebelieve: They Were There
The public is invited to share their memories with elves, worker bees, and children who were once drawn to the North Pole and Upper Jay.
August 26
The Mountains will Wait for You
Documentary and celebration of Forty-Sixer founder Grace Hudowalski with wine & cheese reception.
