Adirondack Shakespeare Company Announces Fifth Summer Season

The Adirondack Shakespeare Company, known for their unique Shakespeare IN THE RAW technique, will be returning to the Adirondack region for their fifth annual Summer Festival Season this July.

In celebration of their fifth season, the company has prepared their largest Summer Festival yet, featuring five mainstage titles along with an original children’s play written by Executive Director Patrick Siler, David & Goliath. The family-friendly tale of brain versus brawn will open the season at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts on July 23rd.

In advance of the Summer Festival opening, the company will present two limited runs of their touring productions of Shakespeare’s greatest hits: “The Course of True Love” (July 10, 7:30pm at Rogers Memorial Park, Bolton Landing) and “A Woman’s Wit: Shakespeare’s Heroines” (July 19th, 2:00pm, LARAC Gallery, Glens Falls).

Mainstage productions include an exciting and rare presentation of the Bard’s greatest histories, known for their lyrically beautiful language and enduring political relevance. The four plays of the “Kingship Cycle” include Richard II, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and Henry V. Rounding out the season is Shakespeare’s much beloved final play, The Tempest.

“We are proud to announce that ADK Shakespeare is now the official Steward of the Scaroon Manor Amphitheater,” says Bradway. “It’s really becoming our home base this season with performances every Sunday and a full-on ‘marathon’ of all the season’s shows in the week leading up to Labor Day.”

ADK Shakespeare’s unique IN THE RAW performance style strips away all extraneous elements of the production, removing lavish period costumes, sets and lighting design, and focuses on Shakespeare’s words. The result has been called “a head first-no safety net dive into Shakespeare.”

ADK Shakespeare’s Mainstage Season will run through September 1st, with performances taking place primarily at the Scaroon Manor Amphitheater in Pottersville, as well as at the Boathouse Theater in Schroon Lake Village, the Carol Theatre in Chestertown, and various other locations.
