Essex Theatre Company, community theater in Essex, NY, will present Joe DiPietro’s family comedy Over the River and Through the Woods on July 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 7 pm and July 13 and 20 at 2 pm at the Masonic Lodge (next to the ferry dock). Two sets of Italian-American grandparents in Hoboken, NJ, connive to prevent their grandson from moving to Seattle for a coveted job promotion in this play written by the author of the popular musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. The piece is directed by Kathy Poppino.
Tickets are $12 at the door/$10 pre-pay.
The second production of the season is Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller’s musical revue Smokey Joe’s Café, the longest running revue in Broadway history with 2,036 performances. The show will be co-presented with Adirondack Regional Theatre on August 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, at 7 pm and August 3 at 2 pm at the Masonic Lodge in Essex. Director/Choreographer is Antonette Knoedl and Music Director/Accompanist is Allison Andre. The show, originally produced in 1995, features 39 pop and rock songs, such as “Yakety Yak,” “Love Potion #9,” “Fools Fall in Love,” “Hound Dog,” and “Treat Me Nice.”

ETC Barbeque Benefit
Essex Theatre Company’s Barbeque Benefit will be presented on Saturday, July 26, at 5 pm, at the Masonic Lodge, Essex. It will feature barbeque treats, cash bar, desserts, Chinese auction and a Variety Show of song and dance. Tickets are $25 at the door/$23 pre-pay.
