On Friday, May 11, the Whallonsburg Grange Hall in Essex, New York will welcome Fara, four young musicians from the Orkney Islands who are in the forefront of today’s Scottish folk scene. Having wowed audiences in the United Kingdom and Europe, Fara is on their first, highly anticipated American tour.
With three fiddles and a piano, Fara brings together Jennifer Austin, Kristan Harvey, Jeana Leslie, and Catriona Price, accomplished individual musicians rooted strongly in Orkney traditions.
Fara has received the BBC Radio Young Folk Award, Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, and the Deutsche Bank Award in Performance and Competition. They have been featured performers at the Cambridge Folk Festival (UK), Celtic Connections (Glasgow), Tonder Festival (Denmark), and the Orkney Folk Festival among others. In addition to their Grange show, Fara will also be visiting Willsboro School on Friday morning to perform and teach a master class with students.
The Grange performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15/$5 under 18. Advance tickets on sale at Dogwood Bakery in Wadhams. Advance reservations are also accepted by e-mail (admin@thegrangehall.info) or 519-963-7777.
This performance has been made possible, in part, by the Essex County Arts Council’s Cultural Assistance Program Grant with funding provided by Essex County as well as a generous sponsorship from Champlain National Bank.

Just saw Fara at the Crandall Library in Glens Fall NY, They are remarkable! You wont want to miss their performance. They are talented musicians, and their smiles and comedy are an added pleasure.
