      The Fort Ticonderoga Association Names New Board Members

      Fort Ticonderoga named four members to its Board of Trustees: Dr. Eliot Cohen, Washington, DC; Dr. John Macionis, Mount Vernon, Ohio; Craig Treiber, Long Island, New York; and Susan Darrin, Hague, New York.

      “Adding talented and dedicated people such as these to our Board is critical to the bright future which we have in store for Fort Ticonderoga,” said Sanford W. Morhouse, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Fort Ticonderoga Association. “It has been one of our goals to continue to develop a Board of Trustees with credentials and luster appropriate to the international treasure which is Fort Ticonderoga. We have made very encouraging strides in that direction with these new members.”

      About Dr. Eliot Cohen

      Eliot Cohen is Robert E. Osgood Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He directs the strategic studies program at SAIS and the Philip Merrill Center for Strategic Studies, which he founded. He has twice won the SAIS Excellence in Teaching Award and has extensive experience in executive education, including serving as an adjunct professor at the U.S. Army War College. A graduate of Harvard College, Cohen has his Ph.D. in political science. From 2007-2009 Cohen served as Counselor of the Department of State. He is the author of Conquered into Liberty: Two Centuries of Battles along the Great Warpath that Made the American Way of War (2011), winner of the Society of Colonial Wars annual book award, and the Huntington prize-winning Supreme Command: Soldiers, Statesmen, and Leadership in Wartime (2002) as well as numerous other books. His articles have appeared in numerous scholarly and popular journals, he is the author of several widely used case studies for senior military and executive education, and he publishes often in national newspapers such as the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. Cohen is currently a member of the Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and of the Committee on Studies of the Council on Foreign Relations.

      About Dr. John Macionis

      John J. Macionis has been a member of the faculty at Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, for thirty-five years, holding the title of Professor and Prentice Hall Distinguished Scholar in Sociology. At Kenyon, Macionis served in a number of leadership positions including chair of the Sociology Department, chair of the Social Science Division, and chair of the college’s faculty. Macionis is the recipient of the Outstanding Contributions to Teaching Award (2002) from the American Sociological Association. He has an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a Doctor in Humane Letters (honorary) from Kenyon College. The author of sociology textbooks, Macionis has a long-time commitment as a non-profit leader and has served on several boards including the Lake George Land Conservancy, The Fund for Lake George, and Knox County Symphony Association, Ohio.

      About Craig Treiber

      H. Craig Treiber is the retired Chairman of the Treiber Group in Garden City, New York one of the largest Personal and Commercial Brokers in America now associated and owned by Arthur J. Gallagher Inc. Craig has served on the board of numerous charities in Long Island (NY) as well as in the Lake George (NY) region. He is a member of the Business Advisory Board of the First National Bank of Long Island, Executive Committee member of the Metropolitan Golf Association, Founder and Agent of the Narragansett Bay Insurance Company Pawtucket, RI. Craig graduated with a B.A. in economics from the University of South Carolina.

      About Susan Darrin

      Susan Darrin has served as a career volunteer and noted philanthropist in the Lake George region of New York where she has been actively engaged with community, civic, education, and art related organizations. She is a member of the Board of Trustee of the Hague Historical Society and has previously served on The Fort Ticonderoga Association Board since 2007. Darrin graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where she received a fashion degree in design. Darrin has a lifelong passion for gardening.
