Every Monday we share an old Essex image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. The vintage postcard above was showcased last week. From the postmarks on the back we can tell you that the postcard was sent through the mail during June of 1940. This means the photo was taken before that point. When do you think?

This black and white photo shows Bluff Point jutting out in to Lake Champlain. It was taken at the beach belonging to South Farm in Essex, NY. The community was spot on with identifying the view and where the photo was taken. See their comments below:

Christine Herrmann: Looks like a shot of Bluff Point taken from the south.

Kevin Cooper: That’s the view from South Farm’s beach.

Dianne Lansing: I’m guessing it was taken from the South Farm dock…..or beach, if they didn’t have a dock back in the day.

Cindy Pytlak: Um, it says Bluff Point on the card….

Essex on Lake Champlain: Yes, but did you recognize it before noticing?

Cindy Pytlak: Nope. To me, being a Permanent Pointer, I thought that it might be the view from the beach in front of our house. I do have an old postcard of that view when they used to have canoe camps here back in the early 1900’s.
