The historic Meadowmount School of Music announces its 2025 summer concert season, June 27 to August 7, continuing its 81-year tradition of intensive training for young string musicians on its 240-acre campus in the Adirondacks. Meadowmount has long been a favorite summer destination for young musicians and has helped shape some of the greatest artists of the past century—including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, James Ehnes, and Jessie Montgomery.
This year’s season features expanded programming, the return of world-class guest artists, and a new chapter in Meadowmount’s physical and artistic evolution: the restoration of the Josef Gingold Library as a dedicated chamber music teaching studio. The announcement coincides with the 30th anniversary of Gingold’s death, honoring the legacy of the iconic violinist and beloved Meadowmount teacher. “Restoring the Josef Gingold Library is incredibly meaningful to so many alums and musicians, like myself, who were profoundly influenced by Mr. Gingold,” said Artistic Director Janet Sung. “It’s a wonderful way to honor his legacy and his deep love of chamber music.”
The internationally acclaimed Kronos Quartet headlines the 2025 season with a concert on Monday, July 28 at 7:30 PM, followed by a masterclass on Tuesday, July 29 at 10:00 AM. Renowned for revolutionizing the string quartet genre through decades of bold innovation, Kronos’ residency marks a landmark moment in Meadowmount’s history. The Quartet transformed American classical music by pioneering genre-defying collaborations and championing contemporary composers—an influence that continues to resonate at institutions like Meadowmount, where Ayane Kozasa, a distinguished alum, current faculty member, and violist of Kronos Quartet, embodies the spirit of their legacy.

A Legacy of Excellence and Immersive Study
Founded in 1944 by the legendary violin teacher Ivan Galamian, Meadowmount was built on a philosophy of focused, immersive practice. The rigorous schedule—famously enabling “a year’s progress in seven weeks”—is supported by a faculty drawn from top conservatories and orchestras worldwide, many of whom are Meadowmount alumni themselves.
In recent years, Meadowmount has expanded its reach under the leadership of Artistic Director Janet Sung; with digital concert offerings via The Violin Channel and community partnerships with 20 concerts beyond the Meadowmount campus across the region. The 2025 season continues that momentum, deepening the school’s role as a hub of tradition and innovation in classical music education.
Meadowmount has long been a hidden gem for discerning audiences, offering up-close access to artists at pivotal moments in their careers. For seven weeks each summer, a corner of the Adirondacks becomes one of the most vibrant centers of music-making in the country. Visitors are warmly invited to witness the next generation of greatness in action.
“We are thrilled to present a world-class roster of guest artists at Meadowmount this summer, many of whom are also distinguished alums,” said Sung. “Their artistry and depth of musical experience that they will share with the young artists at Meadowmount and our audiences promises to make it a very inspiring and exciting summer!”
