Mountain Lake PBS wants residents of the North Country to join a virtual screening and community conversation on Thursday, March 25 at 7 PM. With PBS’ American Portrait, we’re looking at North Country Changemakers and focusing on the many people who work every day to make the North Country better in ways both big and small. This virtual event will focus on what it means to be American, live in the Adirondack North Country, and what it takes to make a community.
Mountain Lake PBS is part of American Portrait, pbs.org/american-portrait, a multiplatform storytelling project started by PBS aiming to capture the American experience. Using several different categories and prompts, American Portrait invites people to engage with the project and explore the everyday lives of real Americans: the diverse ways we work, play, and connect with those around us. The event will celebrate the hardworking folks of the Adirondacks and North Country that strive to make their communities better every day. We want to hear from people across the North Country about the individuals that positively impact their communities. Those interested in participating in the conversation can learn more and RSVP here.
With only a few stories representing the entire North Country, this region is severely underrepresented within the project. Representing our region on the map is crucial to sharing the beauty of life in the North Country. Sharing a story is simple and ensures that the unique experience of life in and around the Adirondacks will become part of the great mosaic of the American Portrait. This platform provides everyone an equal opportunity to share their story on a massive scale. Each story provides an in-depth look at life across America and contributes to important conversations about our culture. The final ‘portrait’ will become more accurate as people from around the country share their stories and represent their region on our project map. People interested in learning more about the project and sharing their stories can visit pbs.org/american-portrait.
