Essex Community Concerts: "Lift Up Our Library"

What is “Lift Up Our Library,” you ask? We’re happy to announce that the Essex Community Church will be hosting a benefit concert for the Belden Noble Memorial Library!

“We are hoping to bring more programs, books and on-line services to our community”, explains Tom Mangano, the Essex Library director. “We’ve come a long way in just a couple of years and want to continue our momentum. This concert will help us raise the funds to make it so.”

The Belden Noble Memorial Library in Essex, NY, is undergoing lots of changes and improvements, and of course changes are costly. With this in mind, some local musicians and library board members have banded together to raise funds in this “Lift Up Our Library” benefit concert!

The concert will feature The Wannabees (folk & gospel), Russ Bailey (blues), Vicaro & Sonnett (50s, 60s, 70s pop). The Essex Community Church is located on NYS route 22 near the Essex-Charlotte ferry entrance.

Tickets can be purchased at the library during regular hours at the Essex Ice Cream Cafe or at the door. Suggested adult donation is $10. Refreshments available.

The Performers

The concert will feature talented musicians who specialize in different musical genre. The Wannabes, who initiated “Lift Up Our Library,” have performed locally for over 3 years. The four members love folk and gospel music and are known for encouraging audience participation and group singing.

Russ Bailey, who has been involved in Essex’ music scene for most of his life, remembers visiting Belden Noble Library as a child. Russ has evolved into a blues phenom. He is facinating to watch and hear with his collection of different guitars and traditional and original blues music suited to each instrument.

Vicaro & Sonnett, who often perform at the Essex Inn, specialize in popular music of the ’50’s, 60’s, and ’70’s. Donald Vicaro’s fine guitar playing mimics great musicians like Paul Simon and James Taylor. The duo’s vocal renditions of songs by the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly and Simon and Garfunkle will lift your spirits.
