This fall the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is once again offering free, hands-on field workshops for teachers wanting to study waterways with their students. College and graduate students interested in becoming Environmental Educators are also welcome to participate. We will be getting out in boats, deploying nets (for fish, plankton, amphibians and invertebrates), and having experts share their knowledge of local rivers and lakes. Various methods that students can use to assess the physical, chemical and biological health of stream and lake habitats will be demonstrated.
The workshops will be held at two ecologically rich sites at the mouths of two tributaries to Lake Champlain:
- September 25: Boquet River in Willsboro, NY (SPACE AVAILABLE)
- October 2: Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge in Swanton, VT. (FULL)
Instructors include:
- Mike Winslow, Lake Champlain Committee
- Erin DeVries, Vermont Watershed Alliance
- Mark Malchoff, Lake Champlain Sea Grant
- Jacob Straub, SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Earth and Environmental Science
- David Frisque, Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge
- Matt Witten, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum
- Elizabeth Lee, Program Coordinator, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum
The field trainings are free, must you must pre-register as space is limited. To register or find out more visit: http://www.lcmm.org/education/teacher-workshops.html.
